In Germany, 9160 new infections with the coronavirus have been registered within one day. As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Monday morning, citing information from health authorities, 84 additional deaths related to the novel pathogen were also reported. The nationwide seven-day incidence rose slightly for the first time in a week. It now stands at 146.9, up from an incidence of 146.5 reported Sunday.
However, there is a clear trend in absolute infection numbers: For example, a week ago the number of new infections was 11,907, more than 2700 more than this Monday. On weekends, the number of new infections is usually lower than the weekly average because less testing occurs on weekends and fewer test results are transmitted.
The seven-day incidence is a key measure for tightening or loosening Corona requirements. It indicates the number of new infections per 100,000 population in a week. According to the federal Corona emergency brake, cities and counties where the incidence level is 165 or higher for three consecutive days must close their schools.
The total number of recorded Corona cases in Germany since the start of the pandemic now stands at 3,425,982, according to the RKI. The total number of recorded deaths rose to 83,276. The RKI put the number of people recovering from Covid 19 disease at more than three million.
